Group 1 Ford of El Paso can help you identify why your car lights flicker.
If you see your lights flickering while driving, it’s likely due to a battery that is dying. In the rare case when it’s not the battery, there are other trouble areas that may be responsible for the issue. Whether it’s the car battery or something else, it is imperative that you have the problem diagnosed and repaired ASAP. If your car lights aren’t functioning correctly, you could become a hazard to yourself and other drivers.

If your vehicle battery isn’t the cause of your flickering car lights, you might be looking at a bad light bulb. Light bulbs are an easy fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new energy-efficient LED bulbs.
If your vehicle has a blown fuse, you could be dealing with a larger issue as fuses are a safety feature on your car. In most cases, a fuse only dies when there is too much electrical current runs through it. As an example, if your anti-lock brakes are installed with a 10amp fuse, and the fuse receives more than 10amps of electricity, the fuse would fail. In this example, your anti-lock brakes would fail due to the failed fuse. If there’s a fuse that continues to fail, bring it in and we will diagnose the larger, potentially more serious problem.
Lights flickering on your dash could also be one of the signs the alternator is dying. Think of it this way, you have battery power to start your vehicle, but to keep your car running, the power comes from the alternator. If you drive an older car with halogen headlights, you may notice them slowly get dimmer with a dying alternator. On new cars equipped with HID or LED lights, they may flicker or just stop working altogether.
A dying light switch, either the interior dimmer or the headlight switch knob, should also be checked out if you have flickering lights on the car. In some rare situations, just replacing a worn-out switch might solve the issue, especially in older vehicles or vehicles with excessive wear. If your vehicle is new, there’s a possibility it could be a sign of a bigger issue with the electrical system.
